Looking for a side hustle that offers you more than just some extra income? Joining a direct selling company as an independent sales consultant (ISC) may be the perfect opportunity for you.
The Freedom to Choose
More than one-million Canadians run their own part-time or full-time business in direct sales, enjoying:
- Income tied to effort.
- Flexible hours.
- The opportunity to work remotely.
- Potential for personal and financial growth.
- On-demand support and training from an established company.
Getting Started
You probably already have the basics: an interest in people and a desire to succeed. You’ll be taught the rest, and you’ll earn as you learn. Direct selling may answer your dream of running your own business, with low risk and strong corporate support.
Here’s a short checklist to help you navigate your next steps:
- Review our member directory and look for a trusted company that speaks to your personal interests and values.
- Ask questions and research the company – check out their website, social media, online reviews, and testimonials from other ISCs who work with them. Get answers to the important questions listed below.
- Business costs – You may be required to pay for certain business expenses when you sign up as an ISC – e.g., a starter kit and personal sales website.
- Enrollment may take place by:
- connecting with an existing ISC, or
- online, by filling out a form.
- Compensation plans – Understand your company’s compensation plan, to learn how and when you will get paid. Companies typically make their plans available to you and tell you how you will earn income with them.
- Mentorship – look for opportunities to connect with other ISCs to help you grow your business.
- Expectations – As with any entrepreneurial venture, remember that it will take time and energy to learn how to sell and how to build your network of customers. Patience and perseverance are the keys to your future success.
- Start your ISC journey.
Important reminder
Don’t be rushed into a decision about starting your own business and avoid any company refusing to answer questions about its products and services, startup costs, average earnings, etc. Legitimate firms, like those who are members of DSA Canada, want you to be successful in the long term by selling excellent products and services at competitive prices – everybody wins when you build your business and make more sales.
