To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Education, students must have: 

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution;
  • A minimum overall average of 70% on the most recent ten full-course equivalents (based on marks received as of the application deadline);
  • Submit the following documents:
    • TEAS application;
    • University transcripts;
      • Wes Evaluation (for international degrees);
    • Profile of Experience;
    • Equity Admission Form (if applicable);
    • Official English Language test results (if applicable).

*Additional notes: Admission to the Bachelor of Education is based on an equal weighting of academic achievement and related experience. Fulfillment of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Students are required to submit official transcripts and complete a mandatory Profile of Experience and Profile Course List via the MyTrent portal. Applicants who fail to submit a Profile of Experience and Profile Course List will not be eligible for admission. Students interested in pursuing the Intermediate/Senior Program must also have five full-course equivalents in the first teaching subject and three full-course equivalents in the second teaching subject. French as a Second Language, Kanien'keha (Mohawk), and Anishnaabemowin (Ojibwe) require five full course equivalents as a first teaching subkect and four full credit equivalents as a second teaching subject. Program Residency Requirement

Trent University offers full-time programs for students interested in teaching at the Primary/Junior (K to Grade 6) or the Intermediate/Senior (Grades 7 to 12) levels. The full-time program is a two-year program where students complete two terms (fall and winter) in each of the two consecutive years. Teaching subjects at the Intermediate/Senior levels include: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Dramatic Arts, English, Environmental Science, French as a Second Language, Geography, Health and Physical Education, History, Mathematics, First Nations, Metis and Inuit Studies, Physics, and Visual Arts.

Successful completion of the practicum is a necessary requirement for successful completion of the program. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates are awarded a BEd degree. The School of Education and Professional Learning reserves the right to recommend candidates to the Ontario College of Teachers for the Certificate of Qualification to teach in Ontario. Non-Canadians completing the program may be recommended to the College but it is the responsibility of the candidates to provide acceptable and appropriate immigration documentation permitting them to work in Ontario.
