Students entering the Mental Health and Addiction Worker Diploma program in Fall 2024 or later will receive the following 6.0 transfer credits, provided they meet eligibility requirements:

  • 0.5 INDG 1001H - The Foundation for Reconciliation
  • 0.5 SOCI 1001H - Introduction to Sociology I: Critical Foundations
  • 0.5 unassigned Policing and Community Well-being credit at the 2000 level
  • 1.5 unassigned Psychology credits at the 2000 level, in the B2 category
  • 1.0 unassigned Social Work credit at the 1000 level
  • 1.5 unassigned Arts credits at the 1000 level
  • 0.5 unassigned Arts credit at the 2000 level

*Additional notes: Students who have completed Fleming College's Indigenous Perspectives Designation (IPD) are also eligible to receive transfer credit for INDG 1002H - Foundations of Modern Indigenous Life. Students must notify admissions@trentu.ca that they have completed the IPD in order to receive the additional credit. 

Students who entered the Mental Health and Addiction Diploma program prior to Fall 2024 are encouraged to contact Trent University about transfer credits received through this pathway.

Program Residency Requirement

Students must complete the following 14.0 credits to fulfill requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Policing and Community Well-being:

  • 0.5 PLCW 1001H - Introduction to Policing and Community Well-being Part 1
  • 0.5 PLCW 1003H - Social Determinants of Health and Crime
  • 0.5 PLCW 2002H - Community Problem-Solving and Analysis
  • 0.5 PLCW 2005H - Diversity and Exclusion
  • 0.5 PLCW 2010H - Conflict Resolution
  • 0.5 PLCW 2100H - Research Methods in Policing and Community Well-being
  • 0.5 PLCW 3002H - Mental Health, Addiction and Community Well-being
  • 0.5 PLCW 3003H - Violence in the Community
  • 0.5 PLCW 3004H - Applications of Multidisciplinary Research
  • 0.5 PLCW 3007H - Problem-solving in a Complex and Diverse Community
  • 0.5 FRSC 1100H - Introduction to Canadian Justice
  • 0.5 SOCI 1001H - Introduction to Sociology I: Critical Foundations
  • 1.0 additional Policing and Community Well-being credit at the 2000 level or beyond
  • 1.0 Policing and Community Well-being credits at the 4000 level in addition to the above
  • 6.0 additional credits, including:
    • At least 3.5 credits at the 3000 and/or 4000 level(s);
    • No more than 1.5 credits at the 1000 level.

*Additional notes: 

  • Fulfilling the requirements above lead to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Policing and Community Well-being. Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (General) in Policing and Community Well-being are required to complete 9.0 credits at Trent University. Consultation with an academic advisor and the Academic Calendar are strongly encouraged.
  • Students may take only one of PLCW 4004Y or 4005Y for credit.
  • CHYS-COMM 2010H and SOCI 2151H are equivalent to PLCW 2100H for program requirements but do not count as Policing and Community Well-being credit. Students who have successfully completed CHYS-COMM 2010H or SOCI 2151H are not permitted to take PLCW 2100H but must substitute another PLCW course at the 2000 level or beyond in order to fulfill degree requirements.
  • Students are encouraged to include one of SOCI 2430H - Sociology of Gender, 2610H - Deviance and Social Control, or 2615H - Crime and Society as elective credits.

Cancellation Policy

This Agreement will be reviewed annually, or more frequently if significant curriculum changes occur at either institution that may impact the pathway. Either party may terminate this Agreement by providing one year's written notice to the other party. In the event of termination, the parties will make reasonable efforts to ensure that students currently enrolled in the pathway are able to complete their studies without disruption.
