You do not receive transfer credits. Instead, if you receive an offer of admission to one of the post-diploma programs, you will enter year 3 of the 4-year program. All admits must complete a series of transition courses (i.e. summer transition program) during the months of July and August prior to entering the third year. Lastly, if you are missing core courses, you will be asked to take “make up” courses from the first and second year of our engineering programs.

Requirements

You may be eligible for the post diploma engineering degree program in Civil Engineering if you have completed a recognized three-year Engineering Technology Advanced Diploma with an overall average of 70% (GPA 3.0, B Grade) in the final year of your program. The admission average is based on your grades in the first attempt in the required courses of the final year of your technology program.

If you have at least two or more years of relevant post-diploma industrial experience, as well as a relevant technology diploma, you may be eligible for the post diploma engineering degree programs if you have achieved an overall average of at least 65% (GPA 2.5, C+ Grade) in the final year of your program. The admission average is based on your grades in the first attempt in the required courses of the final year of your technology program.

Bridging

In order to make the transition from technology to degree studies and from industry to university, the Faculty of Engineering provides a number of transition courses which are required by all students entering a post diploma engineering degree program at Lakehead University from other institutions. These courses are normally taken during the summer prior to the third year of the engineering degree. Exemption from these required courses may be given in instances where equivalent course work has been completed by the applicant.

Students are advised of their required transition courses as well as their timetable upon admission to the engineering degree program. To continue in their engineering program, students must register and maintain registration in all required transition courses.
